ABOUT Granite Bay

Granite Bay derives its name from both the water field adjacent to Folsom Lake and its special geological sources. In fact , the entire area sits on the base of granodiorite from the Cretaceous period. Fossils from ocean deposits dating back 80 million years have been found in the Bay of Granite, mostly during construction.

Granite Bay is not actually a community, but a Census Designated Place (CDP) in Placer County , California. With a total area of 21.6 square miles, it lies just 25 miles from the city of Sacramento in the foothills.

As of 2014, 22,204 residents call Granite Bay home, an increase of 13.67 per cent since the 2000 census.
